They spent an entire afternoon explaining and showing blogs. They told me a story of how a journalist interested in writing a story about the summit told them they didn't understand what a blog was. A bridge between paper and the blogosphere. Lux Mean had an idea of placing regular ads in the Khmer newspaper with summary of what was happening on the local blogosphere and urls. Colleagues who are IT majors do not have blogs and/or not familiar with them. Blogging is not widespread as they would like it to be.

The Clogger team noted how they really want to see more local journalists or newspapers maintain a blog. While nothing replaces face-to-face conversation, since we've know each other for over two years via our blogs - it felt like meeting up with old friends you hadn't seen in a long time. It was good to hear first hand stories of their challenges to maintaining a blog and their experiences training young people and others to blog. I got a kick out the fact that one of my colleague's mother called her cell phone because she was worried about her transport home. But the rain made my colleagues nervous because they said it would make it hard to navigate in flooded streets with their motor bikes and they didn't have rain jackets. This is my first trip to Cambodia during rainy season, so I was really amused the huge downpour and thunderstorm (the porch was protected). So, later we met up at the Khmer Sirin restaurant for a delicious dinner of traditional khmer food.

I remember at the 2005 Global Voices Summit, Rebecca MacKinon made a toast to everyone and jokingly said that those who are involved with Global Voices will never lack for dining companions no matter where they go in the world. I found a TD-10 kit for sale in the classifieds (thanks Kev ) and after a short E-mail/phone dialogue, drove 5.5 hours to Scotland with a bag of cash and did the deal.ġ) I know it's been said many times before but, if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.I was greeted at the airport by members of the clogger team, Virak and "Trajoke" and presented with a Cambodian Bloggers Summit t-shirt! I look pretty good for being a plane for over 24 hours. The next week I came across this great website called VDRUMS.COM to which I am really grateful.

Eventually he dropped the price and offered me free shipping at which point (and with all of the above still fresh in my mind) I got real nervous - this was to be my first buy on Ebay with a value of over $3000 FFS !!Īnother musician friend of mine with many sucessful Ebay buys to his credit said 'walk away', so I did. He wanted payment through Western Union and rubbished and all of this was after the auction had closed. I had a long text saying how the seller was a 44 year old dentist with 2 children in med school, blah, blah. Photos I requested were never sent to me. His E-mail reply said the kit was located in Amsterdam ? I asked many questions some of which were ignored. At that time I was an Ebay virgin and didn't really know about scammers or expect crooks to be dealing using an Ebay front.Īnyway I contacted the seller whose user ID stated Chicago. Soon I found one of these 'too good to miss' deals. I was in the market for a TD-10 and started monitoring prices on (used TD-10 kits are very rare in the UK). This guys tale reminds me of a near miss that I had a few months back. and usually has to have the items shipped overseas - the offers are not that many and some of them are clearly frauds.

It is very sad specially for me that does not leave in the U.S. I retransmitted the person's e-mail to ebay and was informed later it was a account takeover. And guess which was the payment method? Exactly : wire transfer. Meanwhile I received an e-mail, apparently from the seller informing me not to be sad about losing the auction becase he had another TD-10 (expanded!!) for just 600 bucks with free-shipment worldwide.

In the very beggining of my registration I bidded in a auction for a TD-10 which I was overbid. I have registered with ebay recently and bearing in mind not to buy anything which would be more than 300 bucks. and the proposed deal had some of the characteristics mentioned buy the self-proclamed "Roland Policer". Some days ago I made a post about a Roland V-Session being sold for 1,800.00 bucks ff I am not wrong.
